Default Introducing thorsti and her Betta Boys

Stump is our first fish. We bought him from the local pet store where my children amazingly chose the same fish. He had acclimatising issues when he first came home as he was so used to being in his tiny little jar sized tank. He also had eating issues. He would not eat the pellets we had bought at the time he was bought so we ended up giving him black worms until we bought flakes and then finally a smaller sized pellet. He would only keep to the glass of the tank and barely move. He preferred his "travelling tank" for the first couple of weeks but he has been in his normal tank for over a month now. He is dong splendidly and is brilliant to watch when he dives and swoops. He has also been joined by two new Siamese Fighting friends but not in the same tank as my son wanted! Fortunately, neither of them had the same problems as Stump did when coming home.

The photographs are a little old as I have done some remodelling since then. We have only had the two new fish for a week on Sunday and I have already made changes with their tanks.

Stump. He really knows me well now. He will come to the top of the tank or where my hand is when I come over to him. He will also swim away and hide when my husband goes to him. I have taken all of the live plants out of the aquarium now because we do not have much light to be able to grow them. They were all dying and I have changed the glass gravel for a fine blue-purple crushed glass style sand. I will get some plastic plants and bung them in. At the moment I have the castle you will see in other pictures so his tank does not look so bleak. It looks very good with the light shining over the top of it. I will take pictures in the future when I get new plants in.

A week ago on Sunday we went to Farmer's Markets for a little look and buy some fruit and vegetables. We had a look around at the stalls and one had fish! Woo woo! We were supposedly looking for a new one for me but Miss Three fell in love with one. This is the only fish she has named and after some suggestions, Blaze morphed into Blazey. He is a divine red shade and I love the way his fins have been lined with a margin of black. So, Blazey is my daughter's fish but she still claims Stump! He lives in a giant brandy glass that I obtained for him. I have changed the gravel to a bright multicoloured gravel because the coral was playing havoc with the water. I would like a larger bowl for him so I can put the undergravel filter in but I do what I can for the moment with a 250ml water change every day to keep any levels down.

After we bought Blazey at the markets we went to the pet store because although I had a spare container to put the fish into, I wanted an undergravel filter. Alas, I found a white Betta there and I have wanted one for a while. Of course I find one when I really shouldn't. There were three there and Snowflake (named by my husband) was the best white out of them. His body is clear of markings but he has lovely blue and red streaks along his fins. When he is fed black worms his scales gain a pearl sheen that is utterly beautiful. Because I got this boy, I had to get a new container and I knew Miss Three would choose the brandy glass. Snowflake can also be seen on my profile. I also like the pink tones he gains at times.

I fear that I have already caught the Betta bug but I have to be strong and tell myself that I can't have any more fish as we do not have the room for it. I was lucky to get Snowflake as it was.
