    Talking Hello there everyone :)

i posted a few days ago about a sick fish, and thought i might as well come in here and formally introduce myself

Most people on my other forums call me Eli or EJ, so feel free to shorten my name if you dont want to type the whole thing out haha.

anyway a little about myself and my fish:
I am an artist/illustrator living in Colorado, USA
I have only recently started owning bettas (after terrible experiences with fish when i was younger) I never bought fish again! i seemed to be a fish killer, when everyone else said it was so easy. i had my first betta (named Princess) when i was 9 years old. I was dumbfounded as to how i could care for exotic animals (sugar gliders) but not a silly fish. then i realized... i never researched the fish i owned, i just assumed i was doing everything right when i listened to the pet store and 'back of the bottle' instructions. I looked up bettas and care instructions online, and suddenly realized my fatal mistakes.

now i have 2 bettas, Fishy (creative, eh?) and Nori. fishy is sick right now with a small bacterial infection, but is getting medication and making a recovery. Nori is a much younger betta and he is active, vital, and crazy sometimes! he also eats everything! he is the least picky betta i have ever seen.

My moms betta bit the dust on tuesday, probably from the same infection Fishy has now - thanks to her fish we noticed what was wrong with fishy, and were able to get him what he needed to feel better. im hoping in a week he will get his appetite back and start feeling much better.

Its too bad you have to loose a fish before being able to notice and a sick fish. but now that we know, we are prepared!

now that i am being successful with fish, i plan on learning and owning more, and maybe even one day become interested in breeding!

Welcome to the forum site! Sorry to hear about your mom's Betta! However, I'm glad to also hear that Fishy is getting some good treatment and meds for his infection. Let us know if we can help out in any way!

    Thanks

yeah it was sad that moms betta had to die - but it did make me able to see fishy's sickness.

i have always been interested in fish but i was too afraid to own any since i had such bad luck as a kid - but now i am more confident and am hoping in the future (when i have money lol) to get a few large tanks and make a hobby of it

Eli, it's great to have you as part of the betta family here. This is a very active forum and lots of good information is shared among the members. You'll experience the good, the bad, the ugly, the funny and even not so funny if you hang around.
I too, am sorry about your mom's betta but the positive is that you learned from his death. It doesn't make it any less painful, but know that what you have learned will continue to help your current and future bettas!
