Help needed!

Hi guys, I am considering a platinum white line and REALLY want your opinions. I am attaching a photo (he's young) and want lots of input. Sometimes I hate buying/deciding on fish b/c I go crazy critiquing and second guessing myself. What can't someone just send me a perfect male and female who will breed 100% true. . . is that asking too much? LOL

Tell me what you think about:

General appearance
Dorsal fin
Caudal fin
Anal fin
Ventral
Going to be very hard to do color as the picture really doesn't do this fella justice. I have seen this breeder's line and they are beautiful whites. Picture quality on pics sent to me have not been the greatest so we'll forgo color unless you just want to address it. BTW, there is really no green on him although I think the pic makes it look tinted. (d*mn cameras, why can't they just do what they're supposed to do - perfectly)

And please don't just be nice, be honest. There are some things about this fish that I would like to see improved, but that's just natural.

Well hello bettalvr, this is right up my alley since we both have very similar taste in bettas Bare with me as I do my absolute best to be forthright in judging your Betta accurately according to relevant criteria.

- General impression: Healthy, vital appearance! Nice strong body and peduncle.
- Caudal: Edges could be smoother and hes not reaching 180 degrees in the photo, but seems possible. Rays are a bit curved. They should be more straight.
- Dorsal: Nice broad and full dorsal. The front ideally could be a bit more directed forward. Edges could be smoother.
- Anal: Good shape but is a bit too long. It should match the caudal in length.
- Ventrals: Good length but could be a bit fuller. A little tough to see in this photo.
- Color: Nice clean white color on the body. The finnage seems to show a bit of wash.

Overall, a very nice male that has good potential as a breeder.

Thank you for the replies. FiveStar, thanks for such a thorough eval! You picked out the same things as I did!! LOL Several of those issues I addressed with the breeder when I first looked at the fish and then I thought "I bet the breeder thinks I am trashing his fish!" but luckily they didn't feel that way. Have actually given me lots of insight on the line.

Awww! You're welcome Bettalvr! If you only knew how badly I wanted another Betta and I just got a new one! I need to post some pics of him. He's a beautiful dark yellow that my daughter named "Yetti." We're quite proud of him!

i think he is a top male to start your own line, do you have any pics of females you would like to breed with him?

Hi divy, if I get him I will be getting a couple of his sisters also. I do very close linebreeding for several generations, cross-faulting along the way, to ensure a strong line. This little guy is from a nice line of championship winners and is not a first generation . . . so that puts us a couple of steps ahead in producing a strong (hopefully) show line.
