    Default be prepared

I can't believe that for once i was prepared for something that went wrong with a pet (usually i realise and so i haev to rush them to the vet or get the stuff from the lps to fix em).... my females had gotten white spot, and i was ready ^.^ i had bought the stuff to stop it only a week ago, talk about being "in tune" i was like oh ill buy it before i need it. its cos my male pickles n one of my females constantly kills the snails i put in with them, i started with eight now i have five.

So i decided i might as well tell everyone, do what i do, buy the stuff you need before needing it, early treatment may save your betta's life (or other pets be prepared for them all). it is better to have it and not want it than to want it and not have it.

Oh and 'dont panic'. (yes i stole the word from hitch-hikers guide to the galixy)

Always a good idea to have a 'pet first aid kit' for all our pets. I actually have several, specifically geared toward the particular animals. I duplicate some things, but in the event of an emergency I may not remember which kit something is in so I'd rather have it right there and not look for it. Word of caution though, keep an eye on expiration dates.

oh yea, you dont want to use something that isnt even guaranteed to work anymore, or worse, could harm your pet because of the thing being expired.

First Aid Kits are definitely a great idea! We have several around our house (both for humans and pets) and they seemed to get used a lot. The human one gets used more, though. LOL! One thing you should maybe invest in also is some Methylene Blue. Most local pet shops don't stock this and you usually end up having to get it online. If you have a sick Betta, waiting 3-5 days for something to arrive in the mail can be deadly! Methylene Blue is a great med that will treat many things including ammonia and nitrIte poisoning, fungal infections, sterilize the water against some types of bacteria, etc. I have a bottle that I got several months ago just to keep on hand. Never had to use it yet but at least I have it in case of an emergency. It will stain so keep it away from carpet!

Glad you were prepared for the Ick! Fast treatment is one of the best things when it comes to disease!

Yea. Lol i have used more things first aid wise on my bettas than i have on me. i dont get hurt much at all, except i woke up with a huge scratch down my cheek from my cat boo, even that doesnt require anything. Since my bettas I've had to treat one guy (pickles) for a fungal infection from the lps (not usually one i go to) and he was really sick and depressed for a while, but he got better. and now the white spot, bought on (i think) from my fishes destroying my small snails. it took me a while to notice they hadnt moved and they were half eaten... i have bigger snails now though. bigger than the top part of my thumb.
I just thought it would be good to tell people to be cautious because like Oscar Betta said, the store may be closed and then you have the possibility of a dead fish on your hands. they dont deserve to die like that.
And to the staining thing, yea i know it will, the water (except its a diff thing i think) has been turned green ii was like o..k.. is this right? but i had the correct amount for the water, it actually seems to be making pickles (one of my males) make a bigger bubble nest (although i will not leave all the water in there just for a bigger nest, dont want to o.d. my poor guy)

^.^ well i love my bettas, they all seem to at least like me.. you will never believe it, my marble male (posted pics in my marble thread) he and his chosen mate are happy in the same bowl together, he is really calm around her. at one point he was snugged into the leaves of one of my plants in the aquarium and the female was hovering next to him. really surprising!!! and i have my crowntail pickles in with two females (hes already chosen one of them to mate with n shes chosen him) so he can make the bubble nest. then ill take out the 2nd female. in his little bowl there was a huge bubble nest thats why i moved him. this all happened after treating them, they are all good lil cuties!!!
they all are a lot better because of preparation and taking time to check my bettas each day for disease.
( i hope newbies are reading this to learn from, i dont like hearing about dead bettas)
