    Default Scary Event

About 3 months after I got my first betta, about 1 1/2 years ago, I was cleaning my tank which was about 10 gallons and I put my fish into a small container only about 3 inches high. I went to fill up a bucket of water and when I came back and after pouring the water into the tank, I went to go put my fish back in the tank. I was shocked to see that he was not there!!! I started freaking out and found him laying on the floor right beside my dresser (which is like a 4 foot drop). He wasnt moving so i thought he was dead, I went to go pick him up and he started flopping and I quickly scooped him up and put him back in the tank. He is still alive and kicking today

yeah that happens, Bettas are jumper for those reading this thread and if you haven't seen it, you will find out the hard way like he did!
that happened to my brother and his didn't make it. but thank god yours did!
hope your treating him, and not just leaving him after that fall, in his tank like nothing happened. Put aquarium salt in 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and treat with some mythelene blue to help heal him up a bit and it helps his gills if damages a little!

SCARY!!! Unfortunately, this happens far too often. If at all possible try not to take your Betta out of the tank when you do water changes. I leave mine in unless I'm changing around decor or plants to liven up his life.

Make sure that he didn't get any torn fins, etc. from his fall. If so, treat with API's Melafix and that will help them heal up a little faster as well as treat any bacterial infection more naturally. The salt and methylene blue are also highly recommended like BettaLu&Meg said earlier.

    Glad everyone is ok!!

i agree, FishMomma we have to go to everyones home to make sure the water level is low enough or covered enough to avoid this future epidemic. LOL

One of mine jumped out one morning when I went to feed them! The little brat landed in my hand luckily. When I returned him to his home, I used the Melafix. . . good stuff! I agree with the aquarium salt also, don't know what I would do without it.
