[Registered users only can see links. ] I use one of these for my betta. It doesn't look like much in those pictures, but it looks really nice when it's set up! I've got a crown tail myself; I couldn't decide on what kind of fish I was looking for when I decided to get one, either, but when I went to the store to look at them, this was the only one that stuck out to me. Maybe just go out and look around and maybe one will attract your attention.

It depends how much work you are willing to put in. I have two crowns, a delta, three veils and a double tail. I find that my delta is actually the hardest to look after as he is prone to blowing his tail. He is very beautiful though. I vote on a butterfly delta!

All bettas are beautiful in their own way it really depends on what particular tail type you find most attractive, dont let anyone else decide for you And I agree about getting the minibow 2.5gal I have 6 of them and they're really nice tank and the setup only costs $20 from walmart

You first need to research about them, even if you don't want to breed, betta owning and knowing about them and there likes, dislikes, diseases and qualities would make you a great owner knowing these things before owning one. First of the tank size. Bettas idealy need 2 gallons of space to swim in, for health reasons and for happiness. For the health, having a spacy tank would better the chance for your water quality staying clean and safe for you betta to live in when weekly water changings have to be skipped.(yeah weekly changes are neccasary). also haveing that much room for the lil guy/gal would give them enough room to excersise and have a big enough territory to dominate. You also need to consider a filter for your tank and a heater. Bettas are tropical fish and need to be in warm waters of 72-82 degreesF. Filtered water, even tho not needed will ensure optimum health for your betta. Feeding will be needed 2x a day. and a variety of food. All this info can be obtained on the forum under the specific topic forum. Health info=under health forum, Feeding questions=under feeding forum. all have threads I posted for you to read and learn. Having said, if you read all these information provided your one step into owner and making your betta very happy and pushing the limit of having your betta pass the 2 year life span mark. Now for your question on what type. There are over 50 types of bettas, both domesticated and wild. Those seen in pet stores are domesticated, and unless located in SE asia you will have to pay big $$$ for the wild types. But the pet store types are just as beautiful. Here are your types. Crowntail Vieltail Deltatail Superdelta Halfmoons Combtails(crossbred from Crowntail and Veiltail) SunMoons(crossbred from Crowntail and Halfmoon) Plakats Giants These are the common bettas found in pet stores. some easier to find than others. check them out, I breed and my favs have been Crowns, and Veils, being that Veils are the dominant and hardy gene type. i myself bred and cross bred my crown and veil to have the elegant look for a crown but have the hardyness of a veil. so fin preference is entirely up to you
