Default My betta fish spits out his food...so then what's he eating?

I have three betta fish in my house right now and none of them do this..they eat right away when I give it to them. However I just got a new one this weekend and I am scared. First he wouldn't eat at all and I thought it was because he was still getting adjusted but now he is swimming around and behaving fine but for some reasonm everytime I feed him he spits it out. I heard that its because the pellets may be too big for him so I triedcrushing them to smaller peices but he did the same. The guy at my local pet store told me he was young when I bought him. Is this why? I am afraid that he isn't getting enough to eat.

Maybe he just doesn't like the pellets. Try him on another brand, or give him some freeze dried bloodworms.

It really does have to do with that you got a baby. It is harder for them to eat the pellets, even if they love them or not. The reason he is probably spitting them out is that they haven't soaked up enouph water. My betta does the same sometimes if he has problems chewing it. He'll spit it back out, and later goes back to it when it has soaked up a bit more water, then eats it. If that doesn't work, go with Jenny's advice about the bloodworms, they are almost a sure bet to gt your betta to eat.
