yes, i know its a confined space for the guy. i have another tank for him but i dont want to disturb him. the other inactive male isent doing much. i can only hope for a female this week so i can put this little dude in the bigger tank.

this is my setup top down: feel free to leave feedback

What are the stats on your setup? Temperature, tank size, etc. Maybe get a shot from the side, too, so we can see what's going on better?

Good luck on finding your boy a lady friend!

Are you sure that's 6 liters? It looks like it's a lot bigger than that, even without being filled all the way. I think you need something around 20 liters or so for them to be comfortable with breeding. Otherwise, your setup looks alright; just give the male something to build the nest under (a lot of people use a styrofoam cup or an indian almond leaf). Your temperature is pretty good.

Also, you should have something to cover your filter so the fry don't get sucked into it. There are commercially manufactured sponges, but people have also used pantyhose

oh for breeding you need 10 gallons, that is closer to 40 litres, not 20.... its like 37L to be closer to the mark (although bigger is better) this is because you can have up to 600 fry although they do die off, however depending on how good a betta keeper you are there can be 100 or more survive to the selling stage. 28 degrees is too hot, 27 is the hottest you should go, but keep between 26 and 27.
you need a sponge filter for the fry, as well as a cyphon for the water to be replaced, you need to change at least 10% water each day. what food are you using for the fry, please get a bigger tank, a 6L is too small for one betta let alone a whole batch of fry (at least 7.57L)

2 gallons is the recomended volume, which is 7.57L

Optimum temp for bettas is 27 degrees celcius or 80 F

Need to ask me about converting something from litres to gallons or vice versa or temp from the farenheit to celcius, inches to centimetres. I'M HERE!

Oh, I say 20 liters because sometimes people get a tank twice that size and only fill it up halfway.

this thing can hold 10 liters. but they say water height should be at least 6 inches or so.
dimensions are: 16wx22hx51l (all in cm)
i wanna see what a pair could do first, then sort out the hospitality for the fry later.
all im waiting for is a gravel vacuum, some live plants and a female.

i believe i can induce breeding with what i have to play with. i dont think i need a bigger tank, but this experiment is to try and prove that breeding can occur with a few minor instruments and an average kid wont have to spend so much on a setup.

    wish me luck guys....

Well, good luck trying to figure out how to keep the water chemistry good for the fry, 'cause that's not very much water for a lot of pooping baby bettas...you're not going to be able to take the fry out and move them into a bigger tank, if that's what you're trying to do. They might be able to spawn, but I don't know if fry would survive in there.

For your breeding/fry your breeding tank should not go below 80DegreesF, i'm pretty sure i explained it on my threads on the breeding sections definitly check them out for instructions

there are people over here in aus that i know that have bred for years that have told me to go no lower than 10gallons (aprox 38L) but they suggest more like 50L up to 80. You dont have to spend much, i have one of those roller box thingys that are plastic, i have been told they are ok... i know a place that sells heaters and filters all for the one price (so no more for a 10 watt heater vs 100 or a filter for a 10L tank or 100)

Personally i have an 80L tank filled up to the 15cm mark (helps the male not have to have long trips for rescuing falling/fallen fry) this is about 20L full in other words. the 'tank' cost me only Au$11 because it was the roller plastic box. then i have a filter worth 25 and heater cant remember price... (got 'tank' reccomendation of breeding website when i was doing research on breeding bettas)
