    Default Breeding my bettas!

    Today is the day!

After I let Bix free in the container for her in the middle of the breeding tank, it took 10 minutes of courting before he went to blow more bubbles.

Here are some of the pictures of the courting! More updates soon! As well as better pictures from my roommate's camera.

Better pictures! These actually do my fish justice. Thanks to my roommate, V, for taking them with her awesome camera!

Also Glais might be a half moon?

    Bix looks great in stripes.

He is taking forever to make his nest. He keeps going between the plant and the cup trying to decide where he wants them. At this rate we won't be seeing any action until tomorrow

He keeps swimming under the cup, but he isn't blowing many bubbles there... She keeps getting mad and flares at him every time he comes back. She blew a few bubbles inside her little container showing him what he should be doing. He knows where he should be... he just isn't doing his job... This is the first time for both of them. How long should I expect to wait until he gets the hang of it?

This is where the darn 'patience' comes in! They're on their own time schedule, not ours so we just have to wait. It's hard, but it will be worth it. Some will immediately build a huge bubble nest and I have seen some that wouldn't have but a few bubbles, then once the female was released he filled about half the tank. Then I have seen the female 'help' the male along . . . she has to be pleased with it also! It varies from fish to fish and sometimes spawn to spawn, but give him time and he will probably have a nice little nest for her (& you).

Haha she is more impatient with him and the bubbles than I am. I am just worried she might drop her eggs before he finishes a decent nest.

I just checked on them and he was sleeping in the plant and blowing tiny bubbles in his sleep. He must be dreaming of making nests

aww, they are beautiful bettas for starters, i love the females finnage, and the male is just spectacular! my male took a day before he even blew a bubble, but now his nest is huge, although i had to remove the snail because it destroyed the nest (it didnt mean to and i will put it back after the fry are free swimming).. it takes a while for the female to drop her eggs so dont worry too much, however she had verticle lines, she looks like she is ready, keep us updated on when the male finally blows a bubble nest! ^.^ good luck
