Thanks guys! I feel much better about this with your support and don't think I would have tried this without you.

My biggest concern right now is how my male is going to react to the new tank. He gets spooked so easily, I feel the transition will be hard on him. We'll see tomorrow how it goes. As of the morning I will have had the tank running for a day, so I'll acclimate him and let him explore then.

well your male has to get used to the tank before he makes his nest, just remember so putting him in the tank first for a day or so will be best for the little guy, then introducing the female in the bottle when he's used to his tank will make it less stressful being in a new enviroment and will start making his nest and consentrate on spawning actions

That's the plan! I am going to put him in tomorrow morning in the hopes that he is acclimated and ready to get his mojo on by the weekend so that I can monitor all goings on.

Oh and I did some research and I am pretty sure I will end up with (in the best case) something like http://thumb17.webshots.net/t/52/552...7PfhCHF_th.jpg That is in the absolute best case and if you can get halfmoons from deltas... I still haven't figured that out yet. My female is a delta and my male is a super delta. We'll find out

What about this one, he has the black, not quite the finnage (this one is probably younger) and no red, but he's nice. He's less $ and he's here in the states. . . no OS shipping costs and probably better genes. This pic really doesn't do him justice b/c he is not flaring at all, but he's nice.

I kind of want to hold off on getting any more fish for now. If the babies end up working well, then I know I am not going to be able to refrain from keeping a few females and a choice male or two out of the bunch.

I graduate college in May and will hopefully have a job lined up for July. I plan on staying in the north east, so moving my bettas with me won't be too terribly stressful, but I would rather be settled permanently before I make a huge betta family

    Oh no!

I put my male in the tank this morning and he was so stressed. I have never seen a fish with the horizontal stress lines before but they were surely there. The filter was REALLY scaring him so I decided to take it out while he was in there. I came back this afternoon after class and the tank was super warm! I think my heater is broken I had it set to 80 but when I got back it was 85 in the tank! I hope I didn't hurt my little guy It was stabilized at 80 when I put him in, so I didn't think anything of it. I don't want to stress him more by moving him again. I turned the heater down. Hopefully things will get down to a more manageable temperature... He is doing laps across the front of the tank and flaring at his reflection. I feel so bad for the little guy...

if that all that happened, he probably was just in shock and in time will be better, just make sure your heater and thermometer is working properly before placing back in. and yea horizontal line appearing is a highly stressful sign. These are the colors they are normaly in fry ages before there pigmentation changes. Just keep an eye on him for a while and see how he's doing.
