Default Betta breeding and bubble nests?

i have my male betta in a 10 gallon tank with the water at 78F. i introduced the female with her in a hurricane lantern so they could not get to one another. once the make had filled the 1/2 Styrofoam cup with bubbles i let her go all the male did was keep here away from the nest and they never mated. what happened?

I ONLY WANT GOOD ANSWERS NO IRRELEVANT ONES!!!!!!!!!

No as a breeder, this wont just happen. it takes time for the betta to get to know each other. What technieque is used by me and others, is introduce her in that lantern so she cant pshycially touch one another. and leave her in for 3 days, even tho he mad a nest and it looks big, it might not be big enough for her. (trust me, i think i have the most pickiest women bettas in the world!) and after the 3 days remove her completly for 1. repeat the process until the second time of the 3days in. and then release her in with him. By this time he should and made a nest that is a decent size. some female bettas take a look at the nest, test it and then want nothing to do with it because its not up to her standards. Know this, before u put her in you have to notice if she has vertical strips and that her "pearl" is protruding out of her belly. these are signs of maturity, and being ready to mate! [Registered users only can see links. ] take a look at some of the bettas on this page in google and notice the stripes. this is a major factor in knowing if she is intrested in him(paticularly) and is ready. Now being that there are many bettas out there, some females have preferences. and will not attempt for a while until shes completely ready. Also to promote mating you need to set your water at 80 degrees, being that there are tropical climate fish they need the warmth to induce mating, also a anther thailand trick is to introduce tannins in the water! By doing this is helps with making there immune system stronger AND gives them that extra boost in wanting to spawn! to do this u need the best organic plant for bettas and that the Indian Almond Leaf. Not hard to find and order some. i can give u site where to find it if u want them. Another trick if $$$ is low is to take a tea bag, NOT ANY FLAVORED TEA, even tho there good, You need a normal tea bag(regular) and put it in the tank to brown the water. Bettas natural habbitate isn't clear its brown and theres massive amounts of tannins in the waters of thai the they live in. you want the water to reach not a murky brown but brown enough for someone to notice.. is the water brown? lol. You also want to add a hidding place for your female, once spawning has taking place she will be tired and need to hide in between embrassing each other. put some Live water plants in, this helps with the oxidation of the water and gives natural hidding places. also expect her to be harrass by the male, he eventually after showing off will start to chase her and niip at her, ripping some finage, but this is the normal act betta do while breeding. he needds to show dominance to her and make her follow him to the nest. Keep a close eye on them and don't leave the room while in together cause if they don't get along you could end up with a dead betta. Also(again) The female CANT NOT BE THE SAME SIZE. this makes it hard for the male to wrap his body around her to embrass her, she needs to be "a bit smaller" not to smalll tho! but close to the same size! LETS GET THEM TO MATE AND WHEN SUCCESS IS THERE, I CAN HELP YOU FURTHER AND GUIDE YOU ON WHAT TO EXPECT AND HOW-TO'S~
glad your intrested in this, you will be happy once you get it goin. NOw it does take patients and i tried numerous times, before i got any fry older than a week but its worth the experience and knowledge!
