    Default betta crowntail? please read.....?

hi, my crowntail betta is a normal active betta fish. one thing i did notice is that he pauses once in a while for like a minute or two. is this normal? also he has some kind of blackish end on the rim of his fins, (the small fins, the only ones that move while a betta is swimming) is this normal?

Are you talking about the tips of the ventrals? Some of them have color(s) some are solid colored.

    Yes, stopping/pausing is quite normal.

    Yeah pausing is fine behavior.

Has he always had the black rim to his fins? If so then it is okay and that is just his coloring, but watch to make sure he doesn't have fin rot, it presents as a black or white edge and fins that seem to be disintegrating

The darkening at the end of his tail may be the beginnings of tail/fin rot. If his tail looks shredded or shorter in some places, then you have the early stages of rot. Use Betafix or Melafix (Betafix is dosed for tanks 2-3 gallons) for mild cases of it. Be sure to do water changes weekly. Change 25%-50% with a filter and if you do NOT have a filter, change 75%-90% of the tank's water. Never do a 100% water change.

    Good luck!

It sounds to me like you are referring to the pectoral fins, (The ones on the side of the fish). It could be color, it could be illness as was stated. It is best to watch the fish and make sure that there is no signs of disintegration.

yes the blacking of the edges of any part of your bettas fin is most likely the begining stages of fin rot and this is the time to treat it quick to rid of it quick.

Fin rot and overwhelm your betta in JUST ONE NIGHT! destroying its beautiful fins that keep us amazed. You don't want this to happen. I would suggest purchasing bettafix(works great when caught early) and start treatment right away.
Also you want to add aquarium salt to your tank, this way it helps rid of any parasites/protozoans/fungal infections that are externaly. Put for every gallon of water 1 tea spoon of aquarium salt. Doing this also help your betta produce a thicker slime coat, making it harder for infections(bugs) to penetrate your bettas natural coat to infect them.

When medicating your tanks water, it also depleats your oxygen levels in the water. Even tho bettas have the labyrinth which is a organ that breaths the air surface of your tanks water. So with that being said, having either a airstone put in your tank, or a med called Mythelene blue will help reduce the stresses caused by treatment.
