Male Crowntail Betta?

Hi,
So I used to have a ten gallon tank with a divider so I had twomale bettas in there, but my betta died at least a few months ago so we took out the divider and now my sisters male crowntail betta has had the ten gallon all by himself with 2 filters and a bubbler, boths flow diminished by two hideouts which he loves to death. So my question is could I get him some tank mates? I know everyone says crowntails are all mean and everything, but we have had to house two platies with him and 4 cories when a tank broke for a couple hours tops and he seemed okay, and that was with the divider in. Basically at the most, I was thinking about 3-5 ottociclus seeing as the tank is well oxygenated and has a fair amount of alagea.
