Could be just getting used to the environment. I don't really have enough information to know if he's sick. Did you use dechlorinated water? Is the tank heated?

welll. i think he is stressed, most fish dont swim or just lay like a leaf at the bottom of the tank because of loneliness ( non-bettas ) or stress.... buy him a stress ball =)

Good to know - they get a bit moody some times.

I'm having the same problem. I've had my betta for over a week but he is moody all of the time! How can I get him to be more active? He just sits at the bottom of the tank.

Also, I when I come up to the tank...he flares his fins...does he think I'm his competition? I have long, thick hair...

How to cheer him up is excercise! put a mirror in front of him for 3-5 minutes out of a day, let him see his reflection and he'll flare up, show off, then put in on the oppisite side of the tank to give him more swim and excercise. also putting live plants will make him happy!
