i am with vincent on this one, when a kids pet dies i think they should know. my mum never kept a pets death from me, and in the long run i believe it helped. i am sorry that your kid is sad, but give him time and the wound will heal.

2 gallons is the recomended volume, which is 7.57L

Optimum temp for bettas is 27 degrees celcius or 80 F

Need to ask me about converting something from litres to gallons or vice versa or temp from the farenheit to celcius, inches to centimetres. I'M HERE!

sorry i wasn't on sooner but it seems you got great info from our member on here, as for the heater, definitly check the recomendations and size for your tank, also if theres some sort of control setting on the heater you can keep your tank at a steady temp. IF your heater doesn't have one(which i can't remember if we talked about that...sorry) but if not i recommend getting one that has a heat control on the heater.

So sorry for your loss! My daughter's molly fish didn't do too well after we had them for awhile and they finally passed on to fishy heaven. I just told her the truth which she did fine with. (She's five.) Make it an exciting trip to the pet shop for a new fish and that usually helps ease the pain from the loss of a fish. I've found that honesty is always the best policy especially with kids . . . they are smarter than we often give them credit for!

Welcome to the forum and also to a fellow nurse! My thing is Trauma/Neuro ICU. I have great respect for Hospice nurses! Your job is one of the hardest!

    With sympathy . . .
