    Default Sick Betta - Tumor/Cyst?

I have a Betta who has a white patchy cyst/tumor growing from his fin. I just don't know what it is or what to do about it. It seems to be growing rapidly. Is there something I can give him that will get rid of this? Please help.

Do any of these seem like they are what you are talking about? It probably isn't a tumor or a cyst but an infection. This must be treated quickly.

    Default Betta diseases

Thank you for the information. It looks like it might be a fungus. It's a cottony looking material on the fin area.

The Pet Store said I should use the Betta-Fix Remedy. Do you know if I should use that or go get the MarOxy?

You should get whatever you can acquire the fastest that says it is used to treat "cottony growths". These are commonly bacterial infections but are sometimes marketed as anti-fungus meds. I have never used betta-fix, but if it seems like it is for what you need, then go for it and follow the directions carefully. I just used Maracyn to treat the same thing.

Don't wait on starting treatment any longer, it is fatal.

Thank you both for the information.
I just bought Maracyn last night. It comes in packets, each of them made for a 10 gallon tank. My betta is in a vase with a plant on top that barely holds a gallon of water. I guess I can only give him about a pinch of the Maracyn since I have such a small area for him. Is that correct?
It's kind of hard to measure out a little powder.

you have your betta in a vase with a plant in it? that is not the right setup. but right now, just take that plant out of there and later get a new 2 gallon fish tank.

uhh from what I gathered she has a bacterial infection, not torn fins or open wounds...

As for the Maracyn, yeah it is kind of a pain in the butt. What I do is dump it out on a flat surface and use a credit card or something with an edge to make sure my portions are even (yes. Just like cocaine...)

That's exactly what I thought too about the portion control. Ha!

I will do whatever it takes to make him better. This little guy is going to be
5 years old next year. I know I have to let him go sometime, but he means so much to me.

I know you are supposed to use the Maracyn for 5 days. What do you do after the 5 days if it looks like he may need more treatment? Do you have to change the water first and then continue treatment or how does that work?

Thank you so much for your help. I will keep you posted on his progress.
