The opening on the second one is so small I don't even know how you get the betta in and out. They must be in there since they were fry

"Both the Bowls and the Bulbs come with care instructions and a sample of food." You know, because any sort of care instructions you can give for these will keep the betta alive for more than two days.

Seriously, they wouldn't sell small crates for a dog or a cat and recommend you keep your pet in something too small for them to turn around, but they do for fish because they're just decorations anyway!

You should see some of the 'bowls' that wholesale pet suppliers advertise for bettas! It's sickening. . . I have seen bowls that hold 8 oz. of water for bettas!! And those come with a nice little sample of food and instructions for "caring for your betta". When they're on special my rep won't even send the info to me . . . she says it's a waste of time and she knows I will call her and complain. LOL

Before I knew anything about bettas, I was 100% convinced that you were supposed to keep them in little bowls of water with a plant growing out of the top, and that you didn't need to change their water, just add more in when it gets low, and the plant would grow from using nutrients in the water and the betta would eat little pieces of plant matter that were in the water. I forget who told me this (my mother, probably) because I was really young, maybe 5 or 6 at the time, and wondered how it could breathe or move or eat, and that was the explanation I was given.

Companies love to knowingly market blatantly false information to sell their crap

Ooohhhh. . . I see customers at least once a week coming in asking "do you have those plants that betta fish eat?" And some swear I have no idea what I am talking about when I tell them that bettas are carnivores and don't actually eat the peace lily. You know the "I know they eat the plants b/c I've had bettas for a long time" or "oh, my friends have bettas and that's how there's lives and it's fine" etc., etc. It's crazy. Sometimes I would just like to slap some sense into people!

    poor bettas

People aren't allowed to abuse fuzzy pets like this, they shouldn't be allowed to abuse fish. It stinks that bettas are so hardy because they can suvive in shoddy conditions and then people use that as an excuse.

Sad thing is that people do abuse fuzzy pets. . . I see way more of it than I ever want to believe. I even have a rescue lovebird that was psychologically & physically abused. She came in with hardly any feathers and was so afraid of people she almost panicked when I touched her. (and what a biter she was, ouch!) A savannah monitor that was dehydrated & emaciated and left in a cold apartment after the renters were evicted - found by the cleaning crew. OMG, the list of poor babies I have taken in, it's disheartening. Sometimes I wish these little guys (bettas) wouldn't have such a strong will to survive. . . some would be so much better off.

I watched an animal cops marathon today... it was so bad, but I couldn't stop watching. At least they always try and end on a positive note.

Many of those situations are deplorable! I appreciate those who push for animal justice and usually animal cops do just that. Makes me feel a little better that they're really trying and not just shooting a tv show. I know a couple of SPCA officers (one from Philly, one who used to work in Pittsburgh) who can tell horror stories.
