titho87, I certainly hope Spidey does fine, but I would keep a very close eye on him. Even though dropsy is not itself contagious, the bacteria that causes it is. Check out Faith's website <bettatalk.com> Dropsy is listed in the health/disease section. FishMomma has a link to the website also referencing sanatization. Here's wishing your guy the very best health! :-)

i am so far he is fine, he eats, making a bubblenest and swims around the tank, his body looks fine to me, i mean he looks better then the day i bought him i've cut the food im feeding him down to 2-3 pellets or flakes twice a day, cuz i dont want him to get overwieght and get sick, an his tank temp is at a nice 78 degrees and the filter keeps the water clean and i change about 50% of the water each week, but now im gonna jus do 25%, cuz i think 50% is a bit much but he loves the filter and he is actually building his nest around the heater nob and thats exactly wear the filter current is so obviously he doesnt mind the current, probably cuz its a weak one and not one that throughs him around like a rag doll. but i did notice that when i look at him from the side his belly looks droppy like it hangs low but i've seen pics of crowtails that look the same, so is he fine?

Sounds like your Betta is doing fine since he is swimming around and making bubble nests. You usually have a very happy and healthy Betta on your hands if he is doing what you mentioned. If you have a 2.5 gallon tank, I would suggest a 30%-35% water change. Sometimes 25% isn't quite enough. The other thing you can do is alternate the amount of water that you change. One week, do a 25% and then the next week do a 50% water change. I do that on some of mine. Also, be sure to not overfeed which it doesn't sound like you do. That will help your tank stay cleaner, too.

one thing that i noticed bout him is when i have the tank light on and its all dark in the room he flares at me when i get close to the tank, also during the day he flares out his fins but not his gills, and i play with him by putting the tip of my finger in the tank and he will jus flare and chase it, and one time he actually nipped my finger like he bit it, i was like this guy is of the chain , so i think i have a very happy and healthy betta, by the way he does seem a little retarded cuz when i put food in his tank, he know where it is but he darts to quick passes it then circles the food which makes it move more so watching him eat is kinda funny

One of my Betta flares at me too when his tank light is on and the rest of the room is dark. I think it must be they see a shadow and since they don't know what it is, they flare. Ask BettaLu&Meg about the breeding things!
