    One thing I've noticed in my goldfish's tank is that whenever I use flakes to feed them which I do about 3 times a week and the other time pellets, I will get a temporary film on the top from them. Once the goldfish eat the flakes and I give it about 30 mins the film is gone. I think I'd try cleaning out the filter thoroughly before buying a bunch of new ones! Let me know what you find out since I'm curious, too!
